“Motherhood is a feeling which cannot be put into words appropriately till the day it’s experienced”. This was something I was told by my mother and it was in the month of December when Ivana was born and I experienced it.
I’ve recently returned to work from my maternity break. Our maternity leave at EGA has been such a blessing.Taking the 6 months of leave allowed me to adjust to my new journey of motherhood while embracing every moment of my newborn.
– Sakshi Arora, Accounts Manager at one of the business units of EGA.
Sakshi manages the Accounts department for EGA. She handles key processes including payroll, intercompany and month end accounting.
We asked Sakshi a few questions about her work and what she has to say about returning to her job. Excerpts:
Share your experience working at EGA
I am about to complete 4 years at EGA. During these years, I have got several opportunities and been promoted as well. I joined as a Senior Accountant and was later promoted to managerial role. I have also been fortunate enough to get the onsite transition opportunity to New Zealand.
What's your favorite part about working here?
Well… there are many!
I am in this industry for more than 9 years but the working methodology being followed here is what I like the most about EGA. Accountability, responsibility, challenges, growth… I cannot ask for more.
I am also grateful to have a very supportive supervisor. Amit Gupta sir has always been a great support. He gave me several opportunities which developed me as a professional. The moment I announced my pregnancy news at work, my manager started allocating my work so that the work also should not suffer and planned things effectively.
Postpartum support by Team HR
Being a nursing mother, I needed and still need some arrangements to ensure the needs of my little one. I conveyed this to HR and always received immediate response and action to help me in all possible ways.
The HR department is very employee-centric here. They believe in going above and beyond for their employees.
Great Work and Life Balance
As my little one still does not have a bedtime routine set. It gets tough for me to follow fixed timing. Thanks to flexible work hours at EGA...I can manage my work as per my convenient hours.
What are your hobbies?
Right now, it’s just Ivana- my newborn all over. I love spending time with her- playing with her, dancing for her, singing rhymes. Life has changed more than I ever imagined.
Being a working mother, how do you cope with the demands new motherhood places on them?
Returning to work after maternity leave can be stressful for new mothers. They have to try and establish a new balance at home and at the workplace.
This is a big transition but I am really grateful for the support I am receiving from everyone- my family and EGA, being my second supportive family. They made it all seemed easy.
I am lucky to have such a supportive family. Like all babies, my baby too stays awake during the night, so we play and spend time then.
When Iva goes for a morning walk with her grandfather and that’s the time I get to sleep. Everything else is managed by family and house help. I am loving the sleepless nights.
And, the weekend. There's nothing quite like days off after a long week of work. My weekends are usually about chilling out with friends as most of them have kids of similar age group…so more of playdates now. Iva also likes going park and malls.
Sakshi, you and your work always stood by the expectations and has a meaningful contribution to the success of the company.
We appreciate the way you manage the chaos of work and family life. We value your presence and are proud of you.
